You Can Make a Difference
Volunteers are essential at M Health Fairview Pediatrics. From giving a visitor directions to comforting a crying baby, from filing forms to reading a book with a hospitalized child, our volunteers fill key roles that help patients, families, and visitors have a positive experience within our children’s health system.
Serving at our children’s hospital as well as at various locations across our pediatric network, our dedicated volunteers give their time, talents, and energy to support children and families. They enable our staff to focus on caring for our patients, while our volunteers help meet the needs of everyone who comes through our doors.
Volunteers can help in many ways, and we strive to match our needs with each volunteer's unique interests and skill set. It’s a great way to support M Health Fairview Pediatrics. You’ll be making a difference in the lives – and hearts – of children and families throughout Minnesota.

M Health Fairview Pediatrics has developed an approach to safely allow for volunteers to support various volunteer needs across the system in accordance with system safety and training guidelines.
It’s our responsibility as a healthcare organization deeply rooted in our community to protect the wellbeing of our teams, provide a safe and healthy environment for those we serve, and to set an example for our neighbors.
Unvaccinated healthcare workers present an increased risk for our healthcare system and our communities. A healthcare worker may contract a contagious disease, such as the flu, in the community and spread it to employees, volunteers, patients, and visitors.

Volunteers in Action
Claire Stolee: Head Elf
Three days a week, Claire Stolee can be found at M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital finding ways to give patients and their families a break. He conducts read-alongs, plays board games, and holds fussing babies. During the holiday season, he takes on the additional role of “head elf,” taking in and organizing donated toys and gifts.
Mike Hinderscheid: A Gift of Music
When Mike Hinderscheid took up the harmonica as a teenager, he had no idea that he might later use his skills to help children facing conditions like cancer and heart failure. By providing free harmonica lessons to patients and their siblings, Mike brought hope and music to M Health Fairview Masonic Children's Hospital.
