Minnesota is facing a surge in depression, anxiety, and other mental or behavioral health challenges among children and young adults.

To help, the nonprofit Mustaches for Kids Twin Cities has teamed up with the Parrish Family Fund to raise awareness about a significant issue – while having a little unconventional fun. Starting April 3 and running through May 4, the two are hosting a Mustaches for Kids fundraiser, with funds supporting the Behavioral Evaluation Center at M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital.

Here’s how it works:

  • Mustache “Growers” commit to growing a luxurious and impressive mustache for 30 days. Those interested in participating can register here.
  • Once registered, participants will receive an email with instructions for creating a personal fundraising page through Mustaches for Kids.
  • During the month-long fundraiser, growers are asked to raise awareness and funding by collecting donations from their friends, family, and network of supporters.
  • Participants are also encouraged to show off their facial hair on social media by tagging @M4KTwinCities and @ParrishFamFund on Twitter.
  • On May 4 at the concluding “Stache Bash” gala event, Mustaches for Kids Twin Cities will announce the final fundraising total benefitting the Parrish Family Fund, which supports pediatric mental healthcare at our hospital.

Mustaches for Kids America is a nationwide nonprofit with dozens of local chapters, like Mustaches for Kids Twin Cities, all dedicated to helping local children’s charities.

The Parrish Family Fund was created within the University of Minnesota Foundation in the spring of 2022 by former NHL All-Star and mental health advocate Mark Parrish along with his family. Having experienced his own share of mental health struggles, Parrish knows the importance of eliminating the stigma around mental health and increasing access to care for children and teens in Minnesota.
