Acne can be a frustrating condition. It is common among teenagers, but many adults also suffer from acne. Transient acne may also occur in newborns.

In addition to causing embarrassment, acne can be painful and leave scars, especially on the face, neck, back, chest, and shoulders.
Our approach
Acne can present with four main types of lesions, including whiteheads, blackheads, small red bumps called papules or pustules and "cyst-like" nodules. The cause of acne is complex. Bacteria, hormones, and inflammation can all play a role in this skin disease.
