As part of M Health Fairview Southdale Hospital's Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center, telestroke technology is offered for patients being evaluated for a stroke. This technology allows stroke specialists to evaluate the patient and plan treatment even when the doctors are miles away. With telestroke technology, it enables neurologists to coordinate with the on-site care team and examine patients in real time via video conferencing and review the results of brain-imaging tests conducted in a patient's local emergency department. Doctors have the ability to manipulate the camera position remotely- which helps when examining patients and diagnosing stroke symptoms- and can review the results of brain-imaging tests conducted in the local emergency department.
