How Does It Work?

Interpreter services are available free of charge 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In-person, telephone, and video interpreters are available in many languages. Phone and video interpreter services are available on demand for about 250 languages and dialects.

In-person interpreter services are available for the following languages:

  • Spanish
  • Somali
  • Hmong/Lao
  • Oromo/Amharic
  • Karen
  • ASL
  • Russian
  • Vietnamese
  • Cambodian
  • Others upon request

We also provide additional communication aids, cart services for real-time captioning, and translation services for patient education materials.

When we schedule your child’s first visit, we’ll ask about your preferred language and whether you will need interpreter services. Once your family’s interpreter needs are in your child’s chart, we’ll arrange for interpreter services at every visit.

Tip for parents or caregivers: If your child speaks English but you speak a language other than English, please ask a member of your child’s care team to put a request for interpreter services in your child’s file, so you always have the support you need to communicate about your child’s care.

You can use interpreter services at every stage of your child’s care:

  • During phone calls from members of your child’s healthcare team
  • During phone visits with a provider
  • During video visits with one of your child’s providers
  • During in-person clinic or doctor’s office visits
  • At the hospital for a procedure or admission
  • At the emergency department

We can be involved every step of the way, so you can have access to meaningful communication about your child’s care.
