Overview
With a MyChart eVisit, your child can get diagnosed and treated 24/7 for dozens of minor conditions, including the flu, COVID-19, and other respiratory illnesses. We make it simple to get healthcare whenever and wherever you want.
An eVisit is the fastest way for your child to be seen by our care team. For the quickest response, please choose "Next Available Provider" in the dropdown menu to complete your eVisit. When you choose this option, the average response time is less than one hour during the work week, on weekend, and on holidays.
If you choose a specific provider by name, you can expect a response in 24 hours or less Monday through Friday. Please note that response times on weekends and holidays may be longer when selecting this option.
What is an eVisit?
An eVisit is an easy way to get care for certain minor conditions without needing to schedule an appointment or come into the clinic. We'll ask you some questions about your child and your child's symptoms, and a member of our eVisit team will respond with a care plan or recommendations for what to do next. An eVisit should be used only for non-urgent medical conditions because it may take up to one business day to receive a response. If you need urgent medical care, please contact your clinic by phone or find a near by urgent care center. For medical emergencies, call 911 immediately.
Sign Up for MyChart
You need an M Health Fairview MyChart account for your family to schedule an eVisit, because eVisit uses MyChart's secure messaging feature to collect your information, submit the questionnaire about your child's symptoms to a provider, and deliver your child's diagnosis, treatment recommendations, and next steps back to you. If you don't have an M Health Fairview MyChart account, you can sign up for free.
If you already have a MyChart account for your child:
Log into MyChart or use the M Health Fairview App and select your child's profile to start an eVisit.
If you don't have access to your child's MyChart account or need to set one up:
- For children ages 0 - 11, you may call 1-855-324-7843 and request to set up a MyChart account for your child, or you can create a new MyChart account for your child here.
- For teens ages 12 - 17, an in-person visit or video visit is required to set up a MyChart account. Please call 1-855-324-7843 or click here to schedule a video visit.
How eVisits Work
Receive care 24/7 from our online clinic for dozens of minor conditions including cold or flu symptoms, pink eye, skin issues, and even COVID-19.
Log in any time, anywhere
Our virtual clinic never closes - log in from your computer or smartphone any time of day, from anywhere in Minnesota. We're here to help 24/7, 365 days a year.
Online questionnaire
It's easy. Tell us about your child's symptoms. Our online questionnaire will take you through a series of questions in about five minutes. You may also be asked to upload a photo for certain conditions. If more information is needed, the provider may direct you to the best location to complete the diagnosis. In some cases, an in-person or video visit may be required.
Diagnosis in an hour
In order to recieve a diagnosis in an hour, please select "Next Available Provider." From there, one of our licensed clinicians will review your child's case and respond via MyChart in an hour or less with a diagnosis and treatment plan. If you want to see a specific provider, you can select their name. But when choosing this option, response times may be longer.
Payment
If we can't safely treat your child online, you won't be charged for your child's visit. Your child's visit may be covered by your insurance - we'll submit a claim. Any copay or charges not covered will be billed to you.

- On the app, click the "eVisit" button from the home screen. On the web, click the "Menu" button in the top left corner of the home screen. Then select "Start an eVisit" under "Find Care."
- This will bring you to a page that provides overview of what an eVisit is, lists symptoms appropriate for visit type, and informs patient what to expect. Click "Continue" at the bottom of the page.
- Select your current location.
Note: Our providers are only licensed in the state of Minnesota, so you must be in MN to participate in an eVisit. - Select the reason for your child's visit. For most appointment types, you may choose whether you would like to send the eVisit to your primary care provider or the next available provider for faster results.
- After confirming your eVisit details, you will be taken through a check-in process asking for personal information, insurance information, and any medications or known health issues and allergies.
- The eVisit will then take you through a series of questions regarding your reason for the visit.
- Some questions may require a written response and/or provide an opportunity to upload any photos of your symptoms.
- After answering all the questions, you will be able to review your responses before submitting the eVisit to your provider. You can expect to receive a MyChart message with a response from your provider within 1 business day.
- If you would like to check on the current status of your eVisit, select "Visits" from the home page.
- Scroll down on the visits page until you find your desired eVisit. Then select the "Details" button.
To use our eVisit service, your child must be an established M Health Fairview patient. For a primary care-related eVisit, patients must have seen one of our primary care providers within the last three years. For specialty eVisits, patients must have seen an M Health Fairview provider from that specialty within the last year.
You do not need to be a Minnesota or Wisconsin resident to receive an eVisit – but you and your child need to be in Minnesota at the time of your child’s visit.
Not all patients and not all conditions are appropriate for online care. If you start an eVisit for your child and we feel at any time we cannot safely provide care online, we’ll offer advice to get your child the right kind of care. In that case, you will not be charged for your child’s eVisit.
- Once you start an eVisit, you’ll go through an interactive interview, created by doctors from M Health Fairview. Just like in the doctor’s office, the questions will vary depending on your child’s symptoms.
- After you hit submit, a doctor, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner will review your child’s symptoms and medical information, then develop a treatment plan unique to your child. Patients always receive the most appropriate, evidence-based care.
- For certain conditions, a provider may need a little more information to make a diagnosis and may ask you to upload a photo or talk by phone.
If your child has COVID-19 symptoms, we can help. Please complete a general “cold, flu, cough symptoms” eVisit assessment. Our care team will review your child’s symptoms, provide a care plan, and help you set up a COVID-19 testing appointment for your child if one is needed.
MyChart eVisits are accessed via M Health Fairview MyChart through your computer or smart device. You and your child don't see a provider face-to-face. Instead, you complete an online questionnaire about your child's condition and submit it. Then, a provider reviews your information and gets back to you with a diagnosis, treatment recommendations, and next steps.
If you choose "Next Available Provider", you can get a response in as little as an hour. If you select a specific provider, you can expect to receive a response Monday through Friday in about 24 hours. Please note that response times on weekends and holidays may be longer when selecting this option.
In a video visit, you, your child, and your child’s provider can see each other and talk directly. Your child's provider asks questions and talks you through your child's diagnosis and care plan during the visit. A video visit is about the same length as an in-person office visit, and it’s done securely through your mobile device or computer.
Each visit is $52 to $167. Most private insurance companies cover eVisits, and we can bill your insurance for you, so that may lower your out-of-pocket cost. If you have government insurance, please check with your insurance provider for your specific benefit coverage for this service. Remember, if we can’t safely treat your child online, there’s no charge. For answers to questions about our billing practices and insurance coverage, please visit our billing and insurance page.
Even if you have insurance coverage, your health plan may not pay for part or all of your child’s eVisit. You are responsible for what is not paid for by your insurance, any prescriptions, over-the-counter treatments, and any follow-up visits your child may need.
You may be asked to enter your payment information before your child’s eVisit is submitted. If the eVisit is canceled, your payment will be refunded.
You will be able to enter your insurance information at the beginning of the visit. We will bill your insurance for the visit. It is important to check with your insurance to find out if your health plan covers eVisits. You will be responsible for any copayments or charges if your insurance does not cover eVisits.
If you do not have insurance or do not want to use it, you are welcome to pay for your eVisits out of pocket. You may use a credit card, debit card, health savings account card, or flexible savings account card.
