Overview
Video visits are a convenient way to see your child's provider without leaving the comfort of your home. Video visits are completed securely through your mobile device or computer and are a safe and easy alternative for you and your child to consult with your child's provider or care team.
Video visits are similar to an in-person clinic visit in length. A member of our compassionate, skilled care team will meet with you and your child, discuss symptoms or issues, ask questions, and explain details of the care plan during the visit. Differences include that your child's vitals are not taken and there is limited opportunity for a physical examination.
Video visits can be used to diagnose and treat many conditions. If your child's provider determines that an in-person test or exam is needed, you will be referred to a convenient M Health Fairview location that can administer it, either before or after the video visit with the provider.

Most people in the state of Minnesota can receive care through an M Health Fairview video visit. You do not need to be a Minnesota resident – you and your child just need to be in the state at the time of your child’s visit.
The video visit will be completed by an M Health Fairview provider, but your child does not need to be a patient of M Health Fairview to use it. We want everyone to have easy access to convenient care.
Not all patients and not all conditions are appropriate for online care. If you start a video visit for your child and we feel at any time we cannot safely provide care online, we’ll offer advice to get your child the right kind of care. And there is no charge for your child’s video visit.
Yes. For video visits, you can choose to see your child’s own provider. If your child’s provider is not available when you want your child to be seen, you may be offered options to see another provider in your desired timeframe. Search a directory of our doctors and providers here.
Yes. The child who is the subject of the video visit must be present during the video appointment with your provider in order to receive an evaluation and necessary care.
Yes. Video visits are covered the same as an in-person clinic visit. What you will be charged depends on your insurance coverage, including whether you have a copay or have met any deductibles. For answers to questions about our billing practices and insurance coverage, visit our billing and insurance page.
In a video visit, you, your child, and your child’s provider can see each other and talk directly. Your child’s provider asks questions and talks you through your child’s diagnosis and care plan during the visit. A video visit is about the same length as an in-person office visit, and it’s done securely through your mobile device or computer.
MyChart eVisits are accessed via M Health Fairview MyChart through your computer or smart device. You and your child don’t see a provider face-to-face. Instead, you complete an online questionnaire about your child’s condition and submit it. Then, a provider reviews your information and gets back to you with a diagnosis, treatment recommendations, and next steps. If you choose “Next Available Provider,” you can get a response in as little as an hour. If you select your child’s provider specifically, it will take about one business day for a response. Please note: response times may be longer on weekends or holidays.
If your child needs care right away, M Health Fairview Pediatrics offers several options:
- Start an eVisit online assessment.
- Schedule a same-day visit for your child – call 1-855-FAIRVIEW or log into MyChart to schedule.
- Schedule a same-day virtual urgent care appointment for your child.
- Visit an in-person urgent care location.
- Go to an emergency department. Find out how to decide between urgent care and emergency care.
