If you have an eye disease or injury, limited vision can present many challenges. But with proper diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, you can stay independent and active.
Overview
Visual rehabilitation helps people of all ages with decreased vision that cannot be corrected with glasses or surgery learn to use their remaining sight.
Our approach
Your visual rehabilitation may include:
- An assessment to determine your needs and goals in performing activities of daily living, work-related tasks, or schoolwork. The number of therapy sessions recommended will depend on your individual needs.
- Information on available resources, including support groups, adaptive equipment, and more.
- Training in the use of state-of-the-art technology, such as closed-circuit televisions and wearable low vision glasses.
- Training in the use of various optical devices to enhance details for vision related activities, such as reading, writing, and watching television.
- Instruction in strategies and adaptive equipment to aid in participation of the following: schoolwork, home tasks, work, community activities, and play/leisure tasks.
- Recommendations for home modifications to improve lighting and contrast for increased safety and independence.
