Our maternal-fetal medicine centers provide innovative, comprehensive, and multidisciplinary care for complications affecting the mother, developing baby, or both. We partner with many other specialists across our health system to provide the best-possible care for people with high-risk pregnancies, based on the unique circumstances of each person and their unborn baby.
We are part of an academic medical center. As a result, many of our doctors are also researchers and educators at the forefront of the field. They don't just meet the standard of care, they set the standard. Our physicians conduct research, lead clinical trials, and train the next generation of physicians, and they bring that up-to-date expertise to every aspect of your care.
Genetics Expertise
We offer reproductive genetics consultation with licensed genetic counselors who specialize in the field and board-certified Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists. Our experts are highly experienced in both high-risk pregnancies and clinical genetics. We help patients understand the options for testing and screening, interpret the results, and prepare a care plan that makes the most sense for each individual. We use the most advanced fetal ultrasound capabilities and screening methods, including non-invasive prenatal screening (NIPS), which isolates the baby’s DNA from maternal blood to screen for common genetic conditions that can occur in any pregnancy.
In some cases, our patients are first screened by their primary provider, and when the results show an increased risk for a genetic anomaly, our experts can help with further testing and treatment, both before the baby is born and after.
Genetic screening and expert consultation provide the opportunity to process information and consider all of the options. It may also be the opportunity to prepare for the specific needs of the new baby.
As an integral part of M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital, our maternal-fetal medicine specialists are closely aligned with the neonatologists in our Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), pediatric surgical sub-specialists, OB/GYNs, and primary care providers across the Fairview health system. We ensure that our patients receive continuity of care throughout their pregnancies and beyond.
Fetal Diagnosis and Treatment Center (FDTC)
FDTC offers complete maternal and fetal care for pregnancies with a known or possible fetal health problem. Our goal is to give patients as many details as possible, so they are well-informed and can make decisions about treatment options. We see many different pregnancy complications at the FDTC and have multiple specialists who are part of our care teams. We assemble a custom team of caring experts that are chosen based on each patient’s unique situation, and depending on the need, the care team may change or grow over time.
We help plan the right care during pregnancy and for the baby after delivery. Our hospital includes a Level IV NICU, offering the highest level of care available. Care at the FDTC may range from a one-time visit to complete prenatal care and delivery.
Perinatal Assessment Center (PAC)
Our PAC is dedicated to testing, screening, and treating women experiencing a pregnancy-related condition or high-risk pregnancy. Focusing on issues from the common to the complex, our emphasis is on the unique needs of pregnant people. Patients may visit our PAC centers just once for screening or attend a series of visits as part of an assessment recommended by their referring care team. After the assessment, patients may return to their own clinic or transfer their ongoing care to our PAC.
We understand the challenges of high-risk pregnancy and strive to ensure that our care meets every patient's medical, emotional, and spiritual needs. To this end, patients are assigned a care coordinator who is their main contact to help coordinate their care, ensure they understand their care plan, and provide support throughout the process.
