Our approach
Our legacy of excellence in pediatric care stretches back more than 100 years, with a long history of achievements in various pediatric specialty areas. In many cases, these lifesaving “firsts” were made possible by the dedicated care of our pediatric critical care teams. Our physicians provide post-surgical critical care and other treatments, including life support, to children recovering from serious illness or injury.
M Health Fairview Pediatrics offers a continuum of specialized critical care services for children and adolescents:
- The cornerstone of our pediatric critical care service is around-the-clock care of seriously ill children, including intensive monitoring, medical management, postsurgical recovery, and bedside procedures.
- We are experts in interdisciplinary teamwork – because our patients are often cared for by a team of specialists and a wide range of care team members, we are a crucial part of ensuring coordinated, seamless care.
- Our entire care team, including nurses, advanced practice providers, technicians, and others, has specialized experience in critical care.
- We focus on providing family-centered care and encourage a high level of parent involvement and family engagement throughout your child’s care journey.
- We’re innovators – we develop new ideas and techniques for excellent patient care, all backed by a strong foundation of evidence-based principles.
- In addition to our PICU, we offer advanced care for newborns in our neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) available at hospitals across our health system.
For children with heart problems, our dedicated pediatric cardiovascular intensive care unit (PCICU) at M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital provides specialized critical care for our pediatric heart patients. We support M Health Fairview’s renowned Pediatric Heart Center, Minnesota’s top destination for children’s heart care. Our specialized cardiac critical care support is one key reason our heart program – which offers the complete range of children’s heart procedures and surgeries, including transplant – has some of the best outcomes in the country.
M Health Fairview Masonic Children’s Hospital also offers interhospital critical care pediatric transport. Our teams are trained and prepared to act quickly and safely to ensure the best outcomes possible, resulting in the safest and most effective way to manage transfer for patients.
