Overview

The team of gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition specialists with M Health Fairview Pediatrics brings help and hope to infants, children, and adolescents who are experiencing issues affecting the gastrointestinal or digestive system, which includes the esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, and pancreas.

Our pediatric gastroenterology program is anchored by M Health Fairview Masonic Childrens Hospital, a nationally recognized children’s hospital located on a leading academic hospital campus in Minneapolis. We offer advanced treatment for inflammatory bowel disease, nutritional conditions, liver failure, liver transplants, and total pancreatectomy and islet auto-transplants (TP-IAT) – as well as treatment for abdominal pain, constipation, and other common childhood problems. In 2023, we were ranked among the top 50 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report for our exceptional and compassionate care.

Our multidisciplinary program includes gastroenterologists, hepatologists, dietitians, genetics and metabolism specialists, surgeons, transplant specialists, pharmacists, laboratory experts, and many others. Together, they work seamlessly to provide your child and family with patient-centered care.

Through our partnership with the University of Minnesota, your child has access to the latest innovations in pediatric gastroenterology, liver, and nutrition care, including new treatments and techniques not available anywhere else. Whatever intervention your child needs, we’re here by your side, every step of the way.

We combine comprehensive care, advanced medical minds, and caring hearts in a team approach with your child and your family at its center. Our team stands ready to give your child the brightest possible future.

Our gastroenterology, liver, and nutrition care experts work closely with our colleagues across many specialty programs, including our renowned Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis Center, the liver transplant programs, and our groundbreaking total pancreatectomy and islet auto-transplant (TP-IAT) program. We offer:

  • A dedicated team of skilled pediatric gastroenterologists and hepatologists
  • A wide range of diagnostic tests and procedures for both common and rare GI, liver, and nutrition disorders in children, from colonoscopy and upper endoscopy to manometry studies and biopsies
  • State-of-the-art pediatric endoscopic equipment for thorough evaluation and diagnosis of GI symptoms
  • State-of-the-science liver transplantation
  • The largest and most experienced pediatric TP-IAT program in the world
  • Seamless integration with the Rare Disease Program

In 1977, University of Minnesota physicians performed the first TP-IAT in the world. Since then, our surgeons have performed more than 600 procedures, with over 100 of them on children ages 3 to 18.

M Health Fairview’s Cystic Fibrosis Pediatrics Center is one of the world’s largest and most experienced and is home to a multidisciplinary team that provides optimal care to allow for the highest quality of life possible.
