If your child or adolescent has an infectious disease, it can be frightening. You need a doctor who has the expert knowledge to get to the bottom of their symptoms, particularly if the disease is highly contagious, unusual, or complex. Through our academic partnership with the University of Minnesota, our team of pediatric infectious disease experts not only treat children – they also advance the health of children worldwide by leading groundbreaking research into the prevention and control of infectious diseases. At M Health Fairview, you can trust our doctors to provide an effective treatment plan that will put your child on the path to better health and well-being.
We offer a full range of services for a variety of infectious diseases, for both mild and serious illnesses. Although many infections can be treated by pediatricians, you’ll receive the most specialized care from our team of experts, especially if your child has any unique or uncommon symptoms.
Our approach
Our mission is to provide exceptional, compassionate care to infants, children, and adolescents with infectious diseases. We offer testing for a wide range of acute and chronic infections and diseases, and we offer in-depth assessments to determine a patient’s diagnosis. For children who have serious infections or those who face a higher risk of infection due to an immune deficiency syndrome or other chronic medical conditions, we are equipped to provide highly specialized care. The infections we commonly treat include the following:
- Bacterial infections: Such as MRSA, staphylococci, streptococci, tuberculosis, Lyme Disease, and mycobacteria
- Viral infections: Hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, flu, COVID-29,cytomegalovirus (CMV) and adenovirus
- Parasitic infections
- Fungal infections
These infections might manifest as meningitis, pneumonia, endocarditis, skin infections, or recurrent fevers. Infections in those with compromised immune systems, including from cancer and other immune modulating treatments, will often present in unusual and serious ways and our team is highly skilled in addressing these circumstances.
When considering which doctor to choose for your child or adolescent, it’s important to seek out a pediatric infectious disease specialist, since children are physically and functionally different from adults. Kids may also have a hard time expressing how they feel, answering medical questions, or being cooperative during exams and procedures. Prepared with the necessary experience to handle both the physical and developmental differences that make treating children unique, our team are experts in treating infectious diseases in children from birth to young adulthood.
Our pediatric infectious disease specialists have a long history of serving patients in the Twin Cities metropolitan area, the entire state of Minnesota, and beyond. Because of our strong partnership with the University of Minnesota Medical School, we are proud to offer leading-edge therapies and research that benefits children in our care, including emerging treatments that might not be available anywhere else. We are passionate about serving all patients equally and equitably and using our infectious disease expertise to help serve children around the globe.
From routine vaccinations to complex diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, and prevention of infectious disease, we work as a multidisciplinary team to improve each patient’s quality of life. If your primary care doctor requests that your child be referred to a pediatric infectious disease specialist, you can trust they will receive the best possible care through M Health Fairview Pediatrics.
