Overview
When children see clearly, they experience the world in high definition. Shapes, colors, objects, and people are easier to perceive, and everything makes more sense. When vision challenges are overcome, kids can play and learn to their fullest potential.
M Health Fairview Pediatrics is proud to offer one of the country’s largest pediatric ophthalmology programs. Each year, thousands of children receive the finest eye care from our ophthalmologists, optometrists, and orthoptists at Minnesota Lions Children’s Eye Clinic and our specialty care clinics in the Twin Cities metro area. If your child needs care for their eyes or vision, we are here to help.
Our approach
Our pediatric eye care team offers care for children of all ages at clinics across the Twin Cities, including one of the largest centers for children’s eye care in the region. The Minnesota Lions Children’s Eye Clinic is a leading clinic in the upper Midwest, with four dedicated pediatric ophthalmologists, two optometrists, and four orthoptists. The clinic was established near M Health Fairview Children’s Masonic Hospital in 2010 thanks to a generous donation from the Minnesota Lions Vision Foundation, which helped build and equip the clinic. In addition to the Lions clinic, our team practices at pediatric specialty clinics in Burnsville and Maple Grove.
Our team helps babies, children, and adolescents improve their sight and eye function. Experienced in treating many types of eye problems, our doctors care for young patients with misaligned or wandering eyes (sometimes referred to as “lazy eyes”), amblyopia, congenital cataracts, drooping eyelids, glaucoma, tear duct problems, inflammatory eye diseases (“uveitis”), refractive errors (hyperopia, myopia, and astigmatism), progressive myopia in childhood, retinopathy of prematurity, eye tumors/cancer, and all other eye disorders in childhood.
To provide care to patients whose eyes are affected by a wide range of conditions, our team collaborates with colleagues in other fields such as neurology, oncology, neonatology, genetics, rheumatology, and more. We also coordinate with colleagues who have highly specialized training in contact lenses, progressive myopia, neuro-ophthalmology, cornea, retina, and oculoplastics. Our eye care clinics and staff provide integrated services for our patients, including eyeglasses, medications, surgical, and nonsurgical treatments.
Many of our physicians are also professors in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Neurosciences at the University of Minnesota Medical School and conduct research and provide education to advance children’s eye care. Our patients benefit from the expert knowledge and leading-edge innovations that our ophthalmologists bring to their work in the clinics and operating rooms. This is the strength of academic medicine at M Health Fairview.
If your child or adolescent needs care for their eyes, our pediatric eye care team can help improve their sight and related symptoms that are affecting their behavior, health, or ability to learn. It's our privilege to help kids of all ages enhance their vision and eye function, so they can flourish to their fullest potential.
