Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy ‘OMT' (Myofunctional Therapy)

Schedule Appointment
Myofunctional Therapy addresses the oral structures (lips, tongue, jaw, cheeks and palate) and their impact on swallowing skills and oral rest posture.

Our approach

There are many reasons why individuals may present with Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMD). OMDs can interfere with normal growth and development of the bones and muscles of the mouth and face. They can also interfere with how the muscles are used for breathing, talking and eating. Our providers will work with you to determine the presence of OMDs and develop an individualized treatment plan.

If you or your child are experiencing any of these problems, our therapists can help:

  • Open-mouth breathing/difficulty breathing through nose
  • High/arched hard palate
  • Low resting tongue posture
  • Dental problems: overbite, under-bite, cross-bite
  • Restricted frenulum
  • Maintaining lip closure
  • Drooling (beyond age 2)
  • Difficulty/messy feeding
  • Prolonged oral habits (thumb sucking, pacifier use, nail biting)
  • Difficulty saying correct sounds (s, z, sh, ch, etc.)
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Snoring
  • Temporal Mandibular Disorders (TMJ/TMD)
